Parenting is one of the most challenging roles in human lives. No matter if you are a plumber, teacher, gardener, doctor, CEO, entrepreneur... Having a child is hard, rewarding, but hard. Good news is that you can be prepared for what is coming. In theory you may think you are prepared but... believe me, you need some practical guidance.
The three books listed below, when read, literally save sanity of parents and children (not mentioning grandmothers, and other family members). You will thank yourself that you have them on hand when you need them. And read quickly through them before your child is born - just so that you know what is inside them. I can assure you that you will look into them when all other things fail. I did. It helped. Saved me stress and sleepless nights.
1. "Secrets Of The Baby Whisperer" by Tracy Hogg
If I was to choose one book to read before new child is born that would be the one. This book is packed with practical advises what to do when you have no idea what would help.
I can honestly say this book is an absolute life savour if you want to stay sane in those early weeks/ months when your new baby arrives… It promotes respectful parenting and is packed with practical and actionable advises.
2. "Playful Parenting" by Lawrence J. Cohen Ph.D.
This book will unleash a child in you. “Play is children's way of exploring the world” - join your child! Prepare yourself to be that loving caring and playful parent. You soon see that play is best way to help your child develop and educate about the world.
3. "Parent Effectiveness Training" by Thomas Gordon
This book will trigger your thinking if you really want to solve all your child’s problems. It will help you to rethink where’s your “non-problem” zone. This book is no theoretical mambo jumbo but a practical guide to learn easy and effective ways to communicate with your child.
If your child is already here you will still benefit in reading those books. Although the first one may not be that useful :)
